Tips for High-Quality Audio and Video When Using Zoom Rooms
Clear Audio Is the Top Priority for Effective Calls
Using Zoom to collaborate with colleagues, clients, and vendors for meetings has become commonplace for businesses in Tennessee. But, as some people have returned to their Memphis offices, others have remained remote, so video conferencing is still more important than ever.

Audio
The top priority of any conference call is high-quality audio. Even if the video drops due to bandwidth concerns, being able to hear the conversation is most important. To ensure a clear and accessible sound coming from your location, consider these audio tips.
- Proximity to microphones – use array microphone technology to help listeners hear the entire room experience.
- Background noise – place your microphone(s) away from elements like HVAC vents, elevators, and hallways. Any loud background noise could be distracting to listeners.
- Room acoustics – consider sound-absorbing materials to help contain echo. These materials could include acoustic panels, ceiling tiles, carpeting, bookcases, canvas artwork, or plants.
- Speaker placement – use in-room speakers or soundbar near the video screen to create a natural connection between the sound and the presenter on the screen.
- Run tests – test the microphone, speaker, and room acoustics before your video call. If the results require attention, consider some of the discussed solutions or consult with a team of AV professionals, like M3 Technology Group.
Video
There are many cameras and video options available to produce a quality Zoom Room experience. Consider these additional items for setting up your space.
- Camera placement – situate the camera at the eye level of meeting participants to create a “seat-at-the-table” feeling for attendees on the call.
- Furniture layout – A “V” shape table layout is standard in a larger conference room. If in a smaller conference room, consider a “U” shaped layout. However your tables are set, be sure everyone will face the camera.
- Room brightness – consider using the room’s lighting fixtures versus natural window light during the call. We recommend this tip because natural light may dim and brighten throughout the call. It is best to avoid windows or keep them shaded, if possible.
- Screen location – place your video screen in a prominent area where all attendees can see it easily. Your screen will also need to be accessible to a power source.
- Other room considerations – choose a table that does not reflect light, paint the room walls a soft neutral tone, and avoid backgrounds with movement, such as hallway windows with people walking by or outside traffic.
